SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Monday, visited the Byrnihat Oxygen Pvt Ltd to ensure that the unit is prepared to deal with the ongoing COVID crisis.

The CM inspected the plant and carried out a thorough check on the production process.

Sangma informed that the objective of the visit was to oversee the functioning of the plant and be prepared to deal with the ongoing COVID crisis.

"Our objective of the visit is to make sure if the need arises, and if there is a situation in the future like other states, we are prepared to handle the situation," Sangma said.

"Hopefully, we will not have to face the situation like other states. So I have come here to visit the manufacturing unit and make sure (they face) no challenges or difficulties," he further added.

He asked the management to coordinate with the health department and the district administration for any kind of logistical support for the supply and transportation of oxygen across the state in case of any eventuality.

Speaking on the state's procurement plan from the company, he said, "The company has assured us that the state and the health will be given priority under any circumstances."

It may be noted that the unit can produce 2000 cubic meter of oxygen per day.
