Meghalaya CM interacts with  farmers’ collectives in North Garo Hills

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday interacted with members of the “Producers' Group”, an initiative of Farmers Collectivisation for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems (FOCUS) at Gokulgre in North Garo Hills.

Sangma said that the state government has earmarked Rs 200 crore for the producers' group, which will help farmers and entrepreneurs of the state increase their production. Of the Rs 200 crore, Rs 40 crore will be released for different groups in phase-I and the rest will follow, Sangma added.

Sangma also informed that the government envisages providing an interest-free loan to the farmers.

While interacting with the group, the chief minister urged the farmers to work together as a collective or a producers’ group to avail the benefits of the scheme.

He also told the gathering that to mark the anniversary of (L) PA Sangma on September 1, the FOCUS programme will be held in different parts of the state, wherein financial support under the programme will be released to the producers' group.

About 30,000 farmers will avail the benefit of the scheme in the next few months, stated Sangma. During the programme, the Chief Minister also handed over financial support to different producers’ groups.
