SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya cabinet on Tuesday took a slew of decisions - ranging from the amendment of a few rules to security arrangements - ahead of Independence Day celebrations in the state.

Briefing the media, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the cabinet has approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Fundamental Rules & Subsidiary Rules (FRs and SRs) and the Meghalaya Delegation of Financial Powers Rules 2006 to empower the Director of Dairy Development as head of the Department under appropriate rules.

"The Directorate of Dairy Development was started recently and therefore different aspects that come under the purview of the department, such as the delegation of financial powers and service rules, have to be incorporated. So, to facilitate the functioning of the directorate, delegation of powers was given through a cabinet decision today," the Chief Minister said.

The second decision taken by the cabinet was to increase the corpus of the Meghalaya Contingency Fund from Rs 305 crores to Rs 505 crores “to meet the additional and unforeseen expenditures of different departments”.

Given the upcoming Independence Day on August 15, the Cabinet allocated various locations to different ministers and VIPs to hoist the Tricolour and take part in the celebrations in various districts of the state.
