Meghalaya Cabinet and NGOs unable to meet Union Home Minister due to change in schedule

The Meghalaya Cabinet and the NGOs could not meet the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah because of a sudden change in the programme schedule.

“He (Amit Shah) was supposed to stay back. Based on this, slots were given to the various NGOs to meet the Union Home Minister, but he had to go back since certain programmes came up in Assam,” Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed here today.

He said that the office of the Union Home Minister had requested that he may not sit down with the Cabinet and with other organisations which had sought appointment because of the tight schedule.

“I requested the Union Home Minister that at least memorandums could be handed over and he (Shah) agreed to that. The government and other organisations could submit their memorandum to the Home Minister,” Sangma informed.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister informed that the Union Home Minister conveyed the message that he will be happy to meet him in Delhi.

“He has asked my office to coordinate and we will seek appointments for the cabinet and other organisations,” Sangma informed.

Sangma also informed that they have also mentioned about the border issue with Assam, the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule, and including Khasi and Garo Language in the Eight Schedule.

Further, the Chief Minister informed that the Union Home Minister has made certain important suggestions which needs to be taken by the North-Eastern States themselves to improve the overall situation from their part and the Government of India is doing its best to support in terms of finances and policy.

The Chief Minister said that the Union Home Minister also questioned the different States why militancy could not be resolved.

Sangma further informed that all the States had expressed their concern regarding the lack of development.
