SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday informed that the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) examinations will be conducted next week, as scheduled, with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with officials of the state education department, Rymbui said that all preparations for the board exams are set.

“We already have a contingency plan in place to ensure the safety and security of the students,” he added.

Rymbui also allayed the fear of COVID patients not being to appear in the exams.

“The government will provide students, who contract the virus, a chance to appear for the exams on another date and time as set by the department. But they would have to produce a certificate to verify their claims,” he said.

The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination is slated to be held from April 19 till May 3 while the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations will be held from April 16 till May 12.

Meanwhile, the education minister said that the government is monitoring the COVID situation every day.

“Necessary decisions will be taken at an appropriate time if it is needed,” Rymbui said when asked whether the government is considering closing all schools and colleges given the fresh detection of COVID cases in educational institutions.
