SHILLONG:

Public Works Department Minister Prestone Tynsong informed the Bailey bridge at Umroi Dwar Ksuid has been restored allowing trucks to ply.

Speaking to TNT -The Northeast Today on Wednesday, he said, “The bridge has been restored yesterday. Vehicles have been plying. It is not a major repair but a minor one”.

It may be mentioned that the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi had issued an order that a technical defect on Bailey bridge had occurred on April 12.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that people should report to the police department if there are trucks carrying over 40 tons which is the permissible load limit.

Speaking to reporters after reports of cracks that had appeared at Bailley bridge at Umroi Dwar Ksuid (Shillong bye-pass), he said, “As far as I know, trucks carrying over 40 tons are not allowed to ply as per the order of the government and also considering the capacity of the bridge. If there are trucks that carry more than 40 tons, it should be reported to the Police department so that they can arrest the culprits”.
