NONGPOH:

The Ri-Bhoi district administration on Friday imposed Section 144 CrPC barring the plying of vehicles through the Bailey Bridge at the Shillong Bypass after technical defects were detected in the bridge.

In an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, it stated the plying or movement of vehicles through the bridge will be suspended from June 18 to June 23 until further notice. Vehicles with not over 10 metric tons can ply through the old bridge.

It may be noted, the newly constructed Bailey Bridge or the steel bridge was dedicated for public transportation on March 25 this year.

The new bridge was entrusted to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to manage the construction at a sanctioned amount of ₹ 3 crore.
