Meghalaya Assembly approves Govt resolution on invoking of AR in GHADC



The Meghalaya Assembly today approved the government resolution to invoke Administrator Rule in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Councils.

Laying the government resolution on the first day of the Autumn session, District Council Affairs Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that in the exercise of powers confers under sub-paragraph (2) of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, vide notification issued on October 16, 2020, assumed himself the administration of the GHADC with effect from October 19, 2020, for six months or till the constitution of the new Council through the election whichever is earlier.

Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the elections to re-constitute GHADC has to be postponed to a date which will be decided later.

The various bills which were tabled on the first day of the session include Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears Bill 2020, Meghalaya Mineral Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Meghalaya Farmers’ (Empowerment) Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Meghalaya Rights to Public Services Bill, 2020 and St Xavier’s University, Shillong Bill, 2020.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, in-charge of PWD (Roads), tabled the Forty-First Annual Report of the Meghalaya Construction Corporation Limited for the year 2018-2019.

Meanwhile, NPP MLA & Chairman, Public Undertakings Committee, Brening A Sangma tabled the report of the Committee on Public Undertakings on the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ending March 31, 2018.
