Senior party leader and advisor of Meghalaya's regional United Democratic Party (UDP) Bindo Mathew Lanong on Saturday questioned Congress parliamentarian Vincent Pala’s understanding of the alleged Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scam, challenging Pala to come out with facts.

Recently, Pala questioned the UDP’s silence in the alleged rice scam, asserting that its senior leaders, like Jemino Mawthoh and Metbah Lyngdoh, became vociferous only when it came to issues in the Power department.

“You see, I don’t know but there is something wrong with Pala. He does not understand anything. How can you put the ICDS and the Power department on the same plane?” Lanong said in an interview with The Northeast Today (TNT).

“There was reason for us to demand an inquiry into power because the government declared the leasing in Shillong and Jowai region. But there is no comparison between the Power department and ICDS,” Lanong said.

Lanong added that the party does not mind an inquiry into the alleged scam involving the Social Welfare Department, a ministerial portfolio held by UDP Minister Kyrmen Shylla.

“The minister-in-charge has explained that there is nothing as alleged. He also said that enquiry be conducted in case some people pressurise that there is something fishy. We are not standing on the way to say that no enquiry should be conducted,” he said, adding that there was nothing Pala knew which was not public and if required, the MP must bring facts necessary for a probe.
