Meghalaya: 17-year-old beaten to death by her stepfather, accused absconds

A 17-year-old girl from the North Garo Hills (NGH) district of Meghalaya was allegedly beaten to death by her stepfather on April 23.

The suspect fled the scene after allegedly killing his stepdaughter. 

Police sources said that the man was married to the victim's mother for quite some time, while village sources informed that there might have been multiple cases of sexual assault on the 17-year-old by her stepfather. 

A full confirmation of the details will only be available once they receive the postmortem report, police said.

The NGH police have begun a man-hunt to nab the suspect.

“He killed his daughter and then fled the scene of the crime before he could be apprehended. A search for the suspect is currently on and, we are hopeful for a breakthrough in this case,” said Superintendent of Police, NGH, Abraham T Sangma.
