Meghalaya’s daily COVID-19 cases drop to 187; 11 deaths reported

The number of recoveries reported in the last 24 hours stands at 479 with 11 fatalities, out of which 9 are un-vaccinated. The district with the highest number of new cases was East Khasi Hills with 95 followed by West Jaintia Hills with 28 cases.

SHILLONG:

Weeks after registering COVID-19 cases between 400 to 500 every day, Meghalaya on Monday, reported 187 fresh cases - a significant drop compared to 540 cases reported on Sunday. 

The number of recoveries reported in the last 24 hours stands at 479 with 11 fatalities, out of which 9 are un-vaccinated. The district with the highest number of new cases was East Khasi Hills with 95 followed by West Jaintia Hills with 28 cases. 

As of August 9, the cumulative active cases in the state stand at 4734 with 63450 total recoveries and 1174 deaths. 

Recently, Health Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the positivity rate has crossed the 10 per cent mark in Meghalaya and termed the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state as a “major cause of concern”. 

"It is worrying for the government and the residents of the state. We have been trying our best to reduce the positivity rate to 2 or 3 per cent," Tynsong had said.
