Local dorbar says no to authorities outside Meghalaya to execute Sohra Afforestation Project

In a statement issued here on Monday, the Dorbar Khliehshnong referred to the news item on Union Home Minister Amit Shah entrusting the Assam Rifles to plant trees in Sohra.

The Dorbar Khliehshnong Sohra has asserted that it will not give away its land or lease it to any authority from outside the state.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the Dorbar Khliehshnong referred to the news item on Union Home Minister Amit Shah entrusting the Assam Rifles to plant trees in Sohra.

Refuting Shah’s claim, the dorbar stated, “There were no talks or discussions with Assam Rifles authorities, but there were discussions with the State's Soil and Water Conservation Department.”

“No land was given even to the Soil and Water Conservation department but it was only a project titled, Sohra Afforestation Project’ at Sderkariah- Khliehshnong, Sohra, sanctioned by the Soil and Water Conservation Department, Government of Meghalaya,” the Dorbar said in the statement.

The Dorbar also informed that the project was executed by the village after funds were sanctioned by the Soil and Water Conservation Department.
