Laitumkhrah IED blast: HNLC overground worker arrested, investigation on

A press release issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, GK Iangrai, on Wednesday evening, stated that a criminal case was first registered in Laitumkhrah Police Station, but later transferred to the Crime Branch Police Station, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

A day after an IED blast rocked Shillong city, the East Khasi Hills police on Wednesday, arrested an overground worker of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for his alleged involvement in the case.

 "A man has been arrested from an undisclosed location in the city and investigation is on. More arrests are likely in the days to come," said a highly-placed police official on the condition of anonymity.  He, however, confirmed that police have established links between the arrested individual and the HNLC.

Earlier today, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui had assured of stern action against the perpetrators and said that he has “given freedom to the police to execute their plan”. “The police are on the job and all possibilities are looked into. They will not shy away from taking action against criminal elements,” Rymbui had said, adding that the police have also been asked to follow every tip-off.
