SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Thursday said that the alleged scam of diversion of Meghalaya’s rice to Guwahati “does not raise.”

In a recent alleged scam that surfaced, Assam Police had raided the godown of one Maruti Quality Products Pvt Ltd (MQPPL) and the police found that the rice, lifted from Food Corporation of India (FCI) Shillong Division, was repacked by MQPPL into East Sunrise brand, which is a part of Continental Milkose India Ltd (CML) and supplied to Assam Rifles.

However, Shylla said that the rice was allotted by the Social Welfare Department from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to the approved manufacturer under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme of the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme who lifted the allotted quota for the state for processing the same into the fortified foods.

Shylla also stated that the department is looking to encourage self help groups as manufacturers in the procurement and supply of Take-Home-Ration, subject to their fulfillment of the eligibility criteria.
