SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has criticised former Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh for casting aspersions on the demand of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, on December 13.

“We condemn his (Rowell) childish statement that the ILP is only creating jealousy,” said KSU South West Khasi Hills District president Forwardman Nongrem, in a statement issued on Monday.

Nongrem further said that Rowell's statement “proves beyond doubt” why Meghalaya has not been able to have effective anti-influx mechanisms over the last many years.

Referring to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous People, the KSU leader also reminded the former Mawkyrwat legislator of the importance of protecting the indigenous tribes.
