SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has requested for the setting up of Corona Care Center in Amlarem even as they found that there is a need to upgrade facilities in several health centers such as in PHCs in Jarain and Pdengshakap.

The union also said that CHC Nongtalang has 10 beds equipped with medical components but irregular power supply poses a problem in using the oxygen containers.

Regarding the PHC in Dawki, the union said that the PHC does not have well-equipped rooms to house COVID-19 patients.

The KSU Nongstoin circle said that the Nongstoin Civil Hospital needs more beds as currently there are only 12 in number and there is a shortage of manpower.

It may be mentioned that the KSU Mawshynrut circle visited Riangdo Civil Health Center and has requested the government to come up with an isolation ward for COVID positive patients, installation of oxygen cylinders and to make arrangements for medicines.

The KSU South Khasi Hills circle also pointed out that the PHC Sohbar has only two beds and 2 oxygen cylinders even as the PHC caters to 17 villages.
