NONGPOH:

To rectify the false news circulated on social media, leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (Ri-Bhoi District) on Monday inspected the COVID-19 Screening Check Point in Umling, Ri-Bhoi District.

During the visit to the centre, the KSU members, led by President Ferdynald Kharkamni, met the officials mandating the centre, especially the Magistrate and the Deputy Superintendent of Police.

It may be mentioned that fake news has been circulated stating that, the public who were entering the state of Meghalaya were given fake COVID-19 Negative Certificate at the Screening Check Point.

Speaking to the newsmen, Ferdynald Kharkamni, said, “The student body of the district is very concerned over the fake news that has been misleading the people of the state especially with the increasing number of cases.”

The Union also slammed those individuals involved in spreading such rumours.

He also said that the inspection was conducted as a part to encourage and laud the untiring efforts of all those officials who were working selflessly.

Kharkamni also sought the intervention of the state government to take the important call to seal all entries to the state, especially in the border areas so that the containment measures put in place to tackle COVID-19 will be successful.
