Meghalaya: KSU files FIR against non-locals on misusing fake voter IDs

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) in Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya has filed an FIR against three non-locals for allegedly misusing the Meghalaya Bound Voter Identity Card.

According to the KSU, North Khasi Hills District President Ferdynald K Kharkamni informed the people were identified as Md. Mahafuj Ali, Md Sukur Ali and Shahajad Ali were detected on the entry checkpoint by the security guard who asked them to prove their identity.

The three individuals took out the Voter ID of Meghalaya, claiming to be residents of Umshaken village in Ri-Bhoi district.

However, the KSU has filed an RTI at the Election Branch Nongpoh to verify the same where they found that the non-locals have been using fake Voter IDs.

“On the finding, the Union is very shocked and concern over the presence of such people who illegally get any fake documents just to enter the state of Meghalaya, the District Administration and Police Department must act promptly to curb the misuse of any documents,” Kharkamni underlined.

He also said that the Union has filed an FIR against the three people in Nongpoh Police Station and an investigation is ongoing.
