SHILLONG:

The Indian Medical Association (Meghalaya Chapter) on June 13 has called upon all doctors to wear black badges on June 15 and 18 as a mark of protest against the repeated assault on health workers across the country.

According to a press note, doctors are urged to wear black badges or black shirt/tie on June 15 and June 18, to create public awareness and to enact stronger Central and State laws for ensuring the safety of healthcare workers.

Doctors have been on the front of the line in this battle against the COVID pandemic since last year. "They are fighting as frontline warriors under the most trying circumstances and inherent limitations of the healthcare system," read the statement.

Members of a few large state chapters will close the OPD services on June 18, although all emergency services shall continue.

The IMA also urged every eligible person to get themselves vaccinated to bring an end to the pandemic.
