Health Minister urges public to follow appropriate Covid behaviour during Puja, bye-polls
Stating that it will be a challenging task for the government to keep Covid-19 situation under control with Durga puja and bye-polls around the corner, Health Minister James Sangma on Friday urged the people to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols.
Sangma said, "We are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. If we say everything is adequate that would, to some extent, be construed as complacency.”
He added that the state is taking all precautions amidst Health Ministry reports of Meghalaya reporting a weekly positivity rate of more than five percent.
"People taking part in the festivals must follow all the guidelines and SOPs put in place. It is my earnest appeal that people maintain vigil and remains cautious," Sangma said, adding that the health department will monitor the situation very closely.
The Health Minister also assured the people that the government is working on the construction of medical colleges in Shillong and Tura on a priority basis.
"Medical colleges in Shillong and Tura are high on my priority list and I am constantly monitoring the work,” he said, adding that although the construction work has started, there are a lot of paperwork that needs to be done.
