SHILLONG:

The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Friday has served the district administration of East Khasi Hills a week to tackle the issue of the price rise of essential commodities in Meghalaya.

The move came in after several organisations have complained against the rise in prices, claiming that the shopkeepers are raising the prices of essential commodities.

“The rise in prices will affect those people who earn from hand to mouth,” President of HANM Lamphrang Kharbani said.

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has warned all shopkeepers selling essential commodities to not hike the prices by taking advantage of the prevailing COVID-19 situation.

President of KSU Nongthymmai circle, Richard Mawkhiew said that the volunteers of the organisation will keep a check on certain shops.

He said that the organisation will cooperate with the district administration in this matter.

A delegation of the KSU central executive council also met the Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo to apprise her of the same issue.
