SHILLONG:

Following the recovery of two live Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other explosives from Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills on Friday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the government has intensified search operations for explosives across the state to ensure the safety of the people.

“Based on intelligence sources, we are conducting operations to ensure that no untoward incident is reported from anywhere in the state. The government is leaving no stones unturned to ensure the safety of the people," Sangma told the press while lauding the West Garo Hills Police efforts in unearthing the explosives.

When asked about the "Sur ki Nong Mawlai" (Voice of Mawlai People) demonstration in front of the Secretariat building on Friday, where the protestors surrendered knives, demanding the suspension of police officials involved in Cheristerfield encounter, Sangma reiterated that a judicial probe into the case is on and the protestors need to wait for the committee to submit its report.

“I had made my stand very clear on the issue. Let the judicial inquiry be complete and only then, all the facts will be ascertained,” Sangma said.
