SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the state government will discuss the fuel price rise issue after the bye-polls.

“I cannot commit anything right now, but the government has taken note of it and after the bye-elections, we (cabinet) will again sit down to discuss this issue,” Tynsong said on October 21.

Tynsong said that the Chief Minister has already spoken to the union finance minister on the matter, and that the Finance Ministry is deliberating on the same.

The deputy CM also pointed that Meghalaya was the only state in the Northeast where taxes on fuels have been reduced by Rs 6, asserting that the government is doing its best to cut costs.

“Last time we reduced taxes on fuels by Rs 6 per litre, however, the rates continue to increase despite the cut,” he said, adding that fuel price hike is something which is not under the control of the government.

Stating that the price hike is a worldwide trend, Tynsong added that the leaders of different countries are working to address the issue.

Urging citizens to keep calm, the deputy chief minister also slammed the opposition Congress for taking advantage of the situation by holding the MDA government responsible for fuel price rise.

“As bye-election is around the corner, the Congress is taking advantage of the situation, and holding the MDA government responsible for the hike in fuel prices," Tynsong concluded.
