SHILLONG:

Joint Director (SS) of Civil Hospital, Shillong, Dr Andreas Dkhar, on Monday, said that the Hospital is going through a tough phase given the COVID situation, though they are trying to manage the facilities in the hospital.

Speaking to reporters, he said that the visit of the Health Minister AL Hek was encouraging.

“We are having a tough time now. There are more patients, the capacity here in this building is 40, now we could adjust and make it 48 beds. We have extended to another building and there are 40 beds and we are trying to connect the first floor with the central oxygen, once it is finished, we will have another 5-6 beds,” Hek said.

Dkhar informed that the hospital is trying to increase the space in line with the number of cases being brought in daily.

He said that if a person is tested positive for COVID-19, and if there are no complications, they are sent back home and are given medicines.

Dkhar further informed that the arrangement of beds and referring patients to other private hospitals are also being done, also adding that the government has prepared RP Chest Hospital for 15 to 20 beds if there is a surge, and Ganesh Das hospital having 10 to 15 beds for pregnant women, children and female patients.

When asked about oxygen, he said that there is enough oxygen and there is no disturbance in the supply as of now. He said that there is a shortage of ventilators but also maintained that the hospital will get more.
