SHILLONG:

Following an assault on a driver of Mawphor Group of Publications on Sunday, the Shillong Press Club (SPC) has filed an FIR against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at the office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills.

The SPC stated that Ferdison Mylliem Umlong, the driver, was assaulted and his vehicle vandalised by CRPF personnel stationed at Mawlai Umthlong main junction on August 15.

SPC further added that the victim was returning home along with his wife and mother-in-law after procuring medicine when the incident happened.

"The vehicle was stopped by CRPF personnel and they asked the driver to reverse to which he promptly obliged. But suddenly they got irritated for unknown reasons and started lashing out at the car smashing the rear screen completely," the SPC said.

The SPC alleged that the CRPF personnel went on to vandalise the car and the incident was also witnessed by the residents of the locality as well.
