Festivals important to promote tourism, boost economy: Lahkmen Rymbui

Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui emphasized on the greater role of festivals in the state, adding how it leads to an economic boost for the local people.

Reacting to the criticism that the government is organizing festivals where teachers are not paid salaries for months, he said, "Festivals bring livelihood to the people. Amlarem, my home constituency, got a Rs 18 crore road project through the Meghalayan Age Festival." 

"That time too, people criticized the festival, but we got a sanction through the World Bank to build the road from Kudeng-thymmai to Kudeng-rim in Amlarem," Rymbui added.

He stressed on how the implementation of projects cannot be stopped due to delay in the release of the protesting teachers' salary.

"We are here to solve the problems at hand, rather than get into arguments. It is easy to criticize," he said while assuring the people that the government will resolve all the problems of the state.
