Meghalaya police recover huge quantity of explosives from Assam vehicle in Byrnihat

According to the police, the checking was conducted on the National Highway near the Byrnihat Police Out-Post after information was received that one vehicle carrying explosives will pass through the area.

Meghalaya Police recovered a huge quantity of explosives from a vehicle bearing the registration number - AS-01/BV-8065 - during a naka checking at Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district on Friday around 1.10 am.

The police have arrested the driver - Moynul Hoque of Rangaswari village under Kamrup district of Assam – and seized explosives including 2044 aluminum Instantaneous Electric Detonator Class-6 (Division-3) and 4027 Neo Gel (Gelatine Sticks).

According to the police, the checking was conducted on the National Highway near the Byrnihat Police Out-Post after information was received that one vehicle carrying explosives will pass through the area.

“On thorough checking, a huge quantity of explosives were recovered from the vehicle. Accordingly, the explosives along with the vehicle have been seized and necessary action will be taken against the driver,” a police source said.

It was further informed that the vehicle was coming from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills and was heading to Athiabari in Assam. 

"The matter is sensitive and further investigation is on," police said, when further details was sought.
