Meghalaya: Covid restrictions to be completely lifted once we touch 90 percent vax coverage, says Dy CM

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said that government will lift the Covid restrictions completely once the state achieves 85 to 90 percent of vaccination coverage.

Tynsong, who held a review meeting on the Covid situation in the state, said that at present, the vaccination coverage stands at 49 percent, “which is an encouraging sign”. “The government hopes to touch 70 percent coverage by the end of September this year,” he said.

Earlier, the Dy CM, who also holds the health portfolio, had informed that the government has taken several decisions on COVID restrictions.

Some of the highlights from the meeting are:

**Sports activities will start reopening from Monday.

** Cinema halls will reopen with one-third capacity from Monday.

**The jackpot parlours, wards lake, elephant falls, parks will be allowed to open and only 18-plus vaccinated visitors will be allowed (these activities will be subjected to SOPs).

**Private transportation will be allowed with one-third capacity

A notification to this effect will be issued by respective Deputy Commissioners and discussions of the re-opening of schools, colleges, and tourists places, would be taken up next week, he said.
