SHILLONG:

The Congress has decided to file two more petitions against Charles Pyngrope and Shitlang Pale for defecting to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) along with the 10 other MLAs.

"We will be filing the two petitions on December 10," informed Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on December 2.

Earlier on December 1, the party had submitted a petition against former chief minister Mukul Sangma and 9 other MLAs seeking their disqualification as per provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

"We have also decided to see how the first 10 MLAs respond to the show cause initiated by our petition," Lyngdoh said.

The CLP leader also claimed that inclusion of more grounds will be done to ensure all the 12 MLAs will be fit for disqualification.

She further informed that it was also decided to petition the parent body of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on the need for resolving the NSUI Meghalaya Unit because of various reasons.

"We recognise the effort put by the NSUI team in strengthening the party in the state. However, the need to dissolve the NSUI in Meghalaya became crucial for us because several of those members may not or may want to exit the party and join the defecting group. We believe in our decision to dissolve, the intention was not to antagonise members who will remain constant with the party,” Lyngdoh said.
