SHILLONG:

Bajop Pyngrope, the Congress Member of District Council (MDC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) from Rambrai Jyrngam constituency has hinted that his political future may no longer be with the Congress and that the All-India Trinamool Congress (AITC) may come to power in 2023.

The MDC was speaking at a felicitation programme of state TMC Chief Charles Pyngrope, where he hinted that the people of Meghalaya will welcome AITC in the next election.

“I wish you all the best in your future endeavour in the AITC. Considering that the TMC is a secular party, it will grow and be accepted by the people of Meghalaya in the days to come,” Bajop said, while adding that he has always looked up to Charles as a political veteran.

Earlier, on November 24, 12 prominent Congress leaders quit the party to eventually merge with the AITC.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent Pala, on December 4, said that the exodus of the leaders will not affect the Congress party’s vote share in the state.

Pala argued that it will take years for the Trinamool Congress to be established in the state. The Congress, meanwhile, still has time to reorganise itself and will infuse young blood in the party ranks, he added.
