SHILLONG:

The Government of Meghalaya has strongly objected to the alleged misinformed news item published by a local english daily from Shillong on January 11, which stated that the centre has stopped the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects in Meghalaya.

Speaking to the press on the issue, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that there is no such aspect to any stoppage of work under the JJM project from the government of India, and that the information that has come out in the daily is completely false.

“Infact work is going on in full swing. We have within a year and a half almost covered 2 lakh plus houses, where almost 10 lakh individuals have benefitted from the scheme, and the team is working overtime to ensure that we meet our targets,” the CM said.

“So in the middle of all this, while the team is working so hard, it’s unfortunate to see that such kinds of articles which are baseless, without facts, and proper research have been put up,” the CM further added.

The CM has also urged the daily to come up with a corrective article on the same and apologise for the misinformation.
