SHILLONG:

Bodies of two Bangladeshi nationals were recovered from an area close to the border with India on November 3, with allegations surfacing they were killed by the BSF which, however, the latter has denied.

The bodies were found lying near the border in alignment of BP (border pillar) No.1331/M, according to a statement issued by the BSF.

On receiving the information, a team of BSF from BOP (border outpost) Dona visited the spot to ascertain the facts. The place of occurrence, which is a secluded area, is about 10 metres from the border inside Bangladesh territory.

While refuting allegations of involvement, the BSF said no Indian goes to the area from where the bodies were recovered.

Quoting “reliable source”, the BSF said both were killed in Bangladesh and their bodies dumped near the international border. The bodies were identified to be those of Arif Hossain, resident of Mikirpara, approximately 600 metres from the border under Kanaighat police station in Sylhet district, and Askar Ali, resident of Lohajuri, approximately two kilometres from the border.

A team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from the BOP arrived at the crime scene on November 4 for verification. However they are awaiting further orders from headquarters for further course of action and disposal of the bodies. The Bangladeshi media, however, has shown the BSF in a bad light blaming them for the death of the two.
