SHILLONG:

Advisor to the Chief Minister and BJP MLA, Alexander Laloo Hek, on Monday, accused the state police of resorting to "Taliban tactics" in the killing of surrendered general secretary of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Cherish S Thangkhiew.

Terming the killing of Thangkhiew as "inhuman", he said, “It seems the state police or the government is applying the Taliban tactics, which is not acceptable in our society. If anybody is into criminal activities, the government and the police must arrest the person. To brutally kill as the Taliban does, is very condemnable.”

Earlier today, reiterating the government's stand on the Cherishterfield encounter, the CM said that the raid was intended to arrest the ex-militant. “In these kinds of operations, things do not always go according to plan," he added.

Hek also added that he will continue to negotiate talks for peace with the HNLC and the Centre.
