The public prosecutor has asked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court, East Khasi Hills, to award life imprisonment to Nurul Islam, the police officer convicted of raping two minors in March 2013.

Public prosecutor, Evalarisha Rynjah, on March 25, said that she also pleaded the court to also impose fines on Islam, informing further that the defendants have asked for a minimum sentence. “The case happened in March 2013 and now it is 2022 it has taken time but justice has been done to the victims,” the public prosecutor said.

Rynjah said that there are many sections involved in this case and for each of them, she also cited which punishment to be given. Informing that the accused police officer, while framing of charges, pleaded not guilty, Rynjah said that the court will pass its judgement on March 28.

Notably, on March 24, the Special POCSO Court had found Islam guilty of raping two minor sisters in March 2013.
