SHILLONG:

Around 400 members of the Meghalaya Youth Pradesh Congress from the Khasi and Jaintia Hills tendered their resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party, on December 3.

Addressing a press conference here in the city, the outgoing general secretary of the youth Congress, Fernandez Dkhar, said, “For now, they need only people who have money. We are not happy; they are talking only about money."

Claiming that the current leadership has dissolved the youth Congress without prior information to the present leaders, Dkhar accused the Congress leadership of creating a 'rift within the party'.

Blaming the Congress for divisive politics, Dkhar said that the Youth wing was not consulted for the recent membership drive in Meghalaya as well.

“Why not consult us for the membership drive? The constitution of the party was not followed,” he alleged.

Dkhar, however, admitted that he was approached by the All India Trinamool Congress. When asked if the AITC will be able to change the dynamics of Meghalaya politics, he said, “Change is never easy but always possible.”
