Meghalaya: Two injured as truck rams into car on Shillong-Pynursla highway near Laitlyngkot

The SP (Traffic) admitted that lives could have been lost had the car fallen into the deep gorge. The car slid to a halt just inches from falling into the gorge.

Two persons sustained injuries when a tipper truck rammed into a tourist car on the Shillong-Pynursla National Highway-40 at Iewmawiong, Laitlyngkot in East Khasi Hills (EKH) district of Meghalaya on Thursday afternoon.

Police informed that an empty truck (ML05 Q 3966), driven by one Tynshainborlang Lyngkhoi (26) of Pungkung village in EKH, was speeding in a "rash and negligent manner" on the wrong side of the road when it collided with a car (ML 05 Q 9324), driven by Jamesbond P Nongrum (30) of Pynursla village.

The truck was on its way to Pynursla from Laitlyngkot when the mishap happened.

"The tourist vehicle suffered extensive damages and two passengers were injured. Both were brought to Laitlyngkot PHC (Public Health Centre) for medical examination and were released after first aids. All formalities were observed," informed EKH Superintendent of Police (Traffic), S Bamaniya.

The injured persons have been identified as Wanthiang Diengdoh (30) of Kynshi village in West Khasi Hills and D Suting (68) of Nongthymmai village in EKH.

Following the incident, heavy traffic ensued on the road as hundreds of cars piled up on the spot.
