₹1,345 crore released to clear debts of discoms: Meghalaya Power Minister
Meghalaya Power Minister, James PK Sangma on January 14 informed that they will soon clear the liabilities of the various generating and transmission companies with the ₹ 1,345.72 crore loan which was availed under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (ANBA) scheme.
“The Cabinet last year had approved the proposal for availing this loan to infuse liquidity to the state-owned discom,” Sangma told reporters here today.
According to the Power Minister, they will clear all the outstanding dues to all the generating companies and transmission companies which include NEEPCO, OTPC, NHPC, PGCIL.
“We will ride off all our liabilities to the generating companies and transmission companies,” Sangma stated.
When asked how will the Government repay the loan which it had borrowed, he said that this is an opportunity given by the Prime Minister and if the state government seized this opportunity, then it will take this loan at a lowered rate of interest with a three-year moratorium period.
“It is amply clear that by taking this loan we will gain in the long term,” Meghalaya Power Minister added.
Meanwhile, the Power Minister also informed that they expect to complete the much delayed Ganol Hydel power project by May 2022.
“The progress of the work of the Ganol Hydel power project is being constantly monitored by the High-Powered Committee, which is chaired by the Chief Secretary, M.S. Rao.” said Sangma.
“We are serious on the completion of the Ganol project,” he added.
According to him, the Ganol Project is a matter of great pride to Garo Hills and it will help to address a lot of issues related to the problem of power in the region.
