Meghalaya: West Khasi Hills to initiate kitchen garden under Poshan Pakhwada

The office of the District Programme Officer (DPO) held a meeting with several line departments, including the Agriculture, Horticulture and Health departments, as part of the Poshan Pakhwada celebrations in West Khasi Hills (WKH).

The celebrations kicked off on March 16 and will continue till March 31.

Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa presided over the meeting on March 22 at the Conference Hall.

The meeting aimed to encourage the setting up of kitchen gardens to grow vegetables.

District Programme Officer B Nengnong expressed the need to identify anaemic mothers and malnourished children, as well as spreading awareness on nutritious food and healthy eating habits.

It was also announced that an expert from the Health Department would impart exercise and Yoga training.

Besides this, the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments would provide saplings for peas, dhania, carrots, and beetroot that would be planted at Anganwadi Centers.
