Meghalaya: AGHSSASTA asks state government to clear pending dues before GHADC elections

TURA:

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) submitted a letter to the State Government seeking the release of their two-month salary before the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.

“How can we attend duties and training on an empty stomach? Most of us are from rural areas and have to travel to urban areas for training. Who will bear our expenses while we struggle through training and election duty,” said AGHSSASTA president LG Momin.

“We have been informed that the Project Approval Board (PAB) for 2021 is still due from the Central Government. Why is the state government failing to bring funds from the centre? When will the money be available to be released to us by the state government?” asked AGHSSASTA general secretary Benabith Ch Marak.

Given the situation, the teachers have demanded the immediate release of their pending dues before the start of the upcoming GHADC elections.

The teachers also stated that their arrears remain unpaid.

“The state government needs to pay our dues before the elections failing which we will look at strong agitation programmes in the coming days,” the teachers said.
