'Smuggled' contraband from Myanmar recovered in Manipur's Loisi village

IMPHAL:

Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered smuggled contraband from Loisi village in Tengnoupal district of Manipur on February 9.

Acting on specific intelligence, the troops launched a search operation near Loisi Village in Tengnoupal district.

On thorough inspection of the area, the search team found 51 abandoned packages of textile products, 'illegally' smuggled from Myanmar.

On further inspection of the packages, 250 grams of Brown Sugar, packed in 20 soap cases, was also recovered.

The recovered contraband included 38 packages of garments, four packages of shoes, 63 mannequins and 250 grams of Brown Sugar.

The assessed market value of the recovered narcotics and contraband is estimated to be approximately Rs 1 crore.

The recovered narcotics and contraband were handed over to the Customs and Police Department for further investigation.
