Manipur’s Tonthoi bags ‘Best Actress’ award at PRAG Cine 2018

IMPHAL, May 31, 2018: Manipuri actress and national awardee, L. Tonthoingambi Devi, popularly known as Tonthoi, was presented with the Best Actress in North East Award for the Manipuri film 'Eche Tampha', directed by Bisgupta Laishram at the two -day North-East PRAG Cine Awards, 2018 held in Guwahati on May 26 and 27.

Tonthoi was nominated for two movies: 'Eche Tampha' (Manipuri) and 'Ishu' (Assamese) in the Best Actress category at the PRAG Award ceremony which is held annually wherein films from across North-East States are nominated.

L. Tonthoi took part in the award ceremony in a stunning traditional attire by designed by Maxwell as she was presented with the award. The film portrays the journey of a woman who comes across many hardships and overcomes them.

The Best Actor North East Award was presented to Lhakpa from Sikkim. It may also be mentioned that well known Manipuri actor Gokul Athokpam was also nominated for the same movie i.e. 'Eche Tampha' in the 'Best Actor' category.

Actress Tonthoi was nominated for another film called 'Ishu' which is an Assamese film directed by Utpal Borpujari. The film was nominated under the 'Assamese Films' category and Tonthoi walked the ramp wearing a blue saree.

This is not the first time that Tonthoi bagged the same prestigious PRAG Cine Award for Best Actress North East. In 2016, she was nominated for 'Pat Ki Tharo', a film directed by Oken Amakcham.
