Manipur govt. starts 3-day Sero surveillance programme to check COVID-19 spread in Wangoi

The Manipur government has started a three-day sero surveillance programme since Wednesday due to rising cases of COVID-19 in the Wangoi Assembly constituency, where the recent by-polls were held on November 7.

Sero surveillance is a method where levels of antibodies against a specific infection is measured. This method is then used to figure the scale of a population's exposure to the virus.

On Wednesday, a total of 533 persons took part in the mass testing, in which 95 persons have reportedly tested positive in Wangoi, Imphal West district.

On Thursday again, 38 persons tested positive out of the 3185 samples that were tested.

A sero-surveillance is also underway starting from Friday, November 20 in Lilong and Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency in Thoubal district.

The mass testing that is underway is a measure by the state government to contain the spread of COVID-19 infection that may have occurred due to the recent by-polls.
