Manipur: Assam Rifles recover illegal timber worth ₹ 46.4 crore from Kamjong district

The recovered timber included 550 logs of Pinewood, 150 logs of Ucham wood and 150 logs of Teak wood measuring approximately 14, 400 cubic feet worth over ₹ 46.4 crore.

IMPHAL:

The Shangshak Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter IGAR (South) recovered illegal timber worth crores dumped in the jungles near Maku village, Kamjong District on 13 April 2021.

Based on credible inputs regarding the illegal cutting of timber in Makan village, a team from the Assam Rifles carried out a search operation in the jungles of Maku village.

On a thorough search of the area, a huge dump of illegal timber was found at three different locations. 

The recovered timber included 550 logs of Pinewood, 150 logs of Ucham wood and 150 logs of Teak wood measuring approximately 14,400 cubic feet worth over ₹ 46.4 crore.  

Security forces informed that the timber was cut from the nearby jungle, including the areas between Chahong Khunao and Sana Lok River. 

After the haul, the District Forest Officer (DFO) Kamjong was informed about the recovered illegal timber for further legal action.
