Burmese teak worth ₹ 1.32 crore seized in Manipur

IMPHAL:
Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) foiled a timber smuggling attempt in Libong-Duthang Junction on February 22.
The troops recovered a large quantity of smuggled goods/timber (Burma Teak Wood planks) and apprehended eight smugglers close to Libong-Duthang Y Junction.
Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of timber across the Indo-Myanmar border into Chandel, at 02:40 am a team intercepted four Shaktiman trucks.
On thorough checking, timber worth ₹ 1.32 crore was recovered and eight smugglers were apprehended.
The smuggled timber along with smugglers and vehicles were handed over to DFO Chandel for further legal action.
