All you need to know about Manipur’s Bombayla Devi, Olympian archer

Bombayla Devi Laishram has done Manipur and the Northeast proud as she has qualified for the Olympics which will be held in Rio this summer. Here are some must know facts about her.

  • She was born in Manipur to a family who are completely engrossed in sports. She joined the Sports Authority of India in Imphal and trained there.
  • She started archery in 1996 and became the member of the Indian team a decade after in 2006.
  • She received wide recognition after she won gold at the recurve team event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
  • Her mother was also an archer and teaches archery while her father was the state coach for Manipur's handball.
  • This is the third time she will be representing India at the Olympics, the first being in Beijing, the second in London and now at the Rio Olympics 2016.
