GUWAHATI:

Assam Police seized Yaba tablets worth around Rs 1 crore from a truck and arrested two individuals at Lalpani under Jirighat police station in Cachar district around midnight on Tuesday.

According to police sources, a Silchar-bound truck (NL-01-AA-6816) coming from Manipur had to be chased down by a team from Jirighat police station after it did not stop at the check gate.

The police team eventually intercepted the truck at Lalpani, around 47 kilometres from Silchar town.

Police carried out a thorough check and found ten bundles of Yaba tablets (1,00,000 tablets) concealed under the driver’s seat.

The driver, Lian Vaipei (27) and his assistant, Mumong Vaipei (18) were arrested and taken to Jirighat police station.

Sources said the arrested persons, who both hail from Churachandpur district of Manipur, were produced before a court on Wednesday and remanded to police custody.

Yaba tablets are drugs made from a mixture of methamphetamines and caffeine and sold as red or pink pills.
