With just days to go for the Assam Assembly Election 2021, political parties are gearing up for the biggest election battle in Northeastern India.
Unlike other years, the election in Assam this time around is a three-cornered fight.

Interestingly, the election will also witness many unfamiliar faces contesting for the first time.
One of the prominent faces to have emerged out of students’ politics is the co-founder and president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
The 43-year-old Gogoi was the former General Secretary of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), having led the party at Dibrugarh University.
Gogoi’s AJP will jointly contest the upcoming Assembly Election with Akhil Gogoi led-Raijor Dal, as Lurinjyoti and Akhil had led Anti-CAA protests across Assam.

He was quickly elected as the party’s first president.
Assam Jatiya Parishad, which had cast an alliance with the Raijor Dal, led by jailed anti-CAA activist Akhil Gogoi, for the upcoming elections, fielded Lurinjyoti from each Naharkatia and Duliajan constituency.
In February, Lurinjyoti’s convoy was attacked in Nalbari district allegedly by BJP supporters. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.
Lurinjyoti, talking in his maiden tackle as AJP chief in December, clarified his political path.
“The aspirations of Assam and Assamese folks aren’t protected with nationwide events. We now have been duped and exploited for length. The one approach to safeguard our pursuits is to have a platform that believes in robust regionalism,” he said.
“I wish to guarantee folks of Assam that in 2021 we are going to get a regional authority. Will probably be an authority that represents the desires of the folks of Assam. Nobody can cease this journey,” he added.
