Assam: Six Dimasa National Liberation Army militants shot dead

The groups were involved in the killing of Amit Nunisa, which happened before the Assembly election and Sanjay Ronghang on May 19.

At least six Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) cadres were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Assam police and Assam rifles on Sunday.  

Informing media persons, DIG Satyraj Hazarika said in connection with Sanjay Ronghang’s killing at Daojingphang, Dhansiri on May 19 and other incidents taking place in and around Dhansiri a joint operation was conducted by army and police which was carried out on May 22. 

“According to sources, a tipoff was received of the movement of groups belonging to DNLA. The militants, on seeing our the security team, started firing. In retaliation, security forces fired at them. As it was still dark, we could not find out the casualties on the side of DNLA, said the DIG.

“On May 23 morning we went to comb the area and found six bodies of the cadres killed. AK series rifles, grenade and pistols were also recovered from the site, the DIG said. 

The groups were involved in the killing of Amit Nunisa, which happened before the Assembly election and Sanjay Ronghang on May 19. Some groups are still hiding in the area and have fled to Nagaland after crossing Dhansiri river, the DIG added.
