Assam: Poachers flee after spotting forest personnel at Dehing Patkai

The forest officials have recovered a country gun and some abandoned deer meat from the spot.

DIBRUGARH:

A gang of poachers was spotted by forest officials inside the West Margherita Range of Dehing Patkai National Park in Dibrugarh, on Sunday. 

Following a tip-off, a search party was sent to apprehend the gang and the personnel spotted a group under suspicious circumstances in the area.

The Divisional Forest Officer(DFO), Digboi informed that the gang, including Akoman Koch and his son from Bitor Powai village, dived into the Dehing river and escaped after spotting the patrolling team.

The forest officials have recovered a country gun and some abandoned deer meat from the spot.

Two FIRs under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and Arms Act have been registered against the perpetrators by West Margherita Range with the Margherita Police Station.
