NSCN-IM's deputy commander, most-wanted drug supplier RK Hopingson arrested in Assam

GUWAHATI:

Nagaon police, on October 25, arrested R. K. Hopingson, the alleged most-wanted drug supplier in Northeast, at Nonoi of Nagaon district in Assam, the police confirmed on October 27.

According to reports, police seized 20 packets of heroin worth Rs 2 crore in the international market from Hopingson.

After getting a credible tip-off, a team of Nagaon police intercepted a vehicle carrying a heavy consignment of drugs from Dimapur, Nagaland, at Nanoi. Hopingson, who was travelling in the vehicle, tried to flee after attacking the police but was shot at and arrested, said police officials.

Notably, Hopingson is also the deputy commander of the proscribed National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) faction and was allegedly in the National Investigative Agency's (NIA) wanted list for connection with the brutal killing of the National People’s Party’s legislator in Arunachal Pradesh, Tirong Aboh and 10 others, including his son, in 2019.

Meanwhile, in another incident, acting on a tip-off, the Karbi Anglong police recovered about 600 grams of heroin valued at Rs 6 crore in the international market, a pistol and ammunition in the Lahorijan area in Karbi Anglong district after an exchange of fire with drug peddlers on the night of October 25.

Following the exchange of fire, a wounded drug smuggler was found in the area with bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital.
